Over the past decades, Libya has been dependent on the oil sector as a major economic resource, which has led to the neglect of investment in other areas. Old economic policies, which were adopted based on Socialism, created a workforce dependent on the public sector, which weakened the growth of the private sector.
The world has changed since decades ago. The global economy witnessed great diversification with scientific and technological development. It also witnessed prosperity in the private sector. This meant that the policy of relying on the oil field and the public sector became unsustainable.

EU and CESVI Partner to Build the Capacity of Libyan CSOs with YCDPJ
Twelve civil society organizations from eastern Libya completed a six-day capacity-building training under the EU-funded Youth-Centered Dialogue for Peace and Justice in Libya project, implemented by CESVI in partnership with Tatweer Research.

Tatweer works with a true national spirit and entrepreneurs, men and women, from all around Libya, from Benghazi to Sabha to Tripoli, gathered to learn from each other and to learn together. They were all passionate about building their own startup and the future success stories of Libya. A very inspiring first edition, very promising for technology and entrepreneurship in Libya. It is early days still, but a new window of opportunity has been opened for the Libyan youth, and we all need to see through this window with them."
